DPD Docklands

We completed a bespoke solar PV installation for DPD at their Docklands eco-sortation hub, building on our long-standing relationship with one of the UK’s most forward-thinking logistics companies.

Challenge

DPD approached us with a clear goal: to reduce carbon emissions at their Docklands site and continue their nationwide push for more sustainable operations.

Like many of our previous collaborations with them, this project focused on delivering meaningful carbon and cost savings.

However, there were several challenges to address. The site operates under a G100 export limitation, meaning we couldn’t export excess energy to the grid. We also needed to extend the existing low-voltage board to support the system and install bird mesh around the array to protect it from nesting and debris.

Despite these constraints, we knew the system could still deliver strong environmental and financial returns.

Solution

We designed and installed a 1.57 MWp solar PV system across the rooftop and existing carport structure, developing a solution that operated within the site’s export-limited connection while integrating seamlessly with the upgraded LV infrastructure.

To futureproof the system, we installed bird mesh around the perimeter of the array.

While most of the energy is generated during daylight hours when site demand is lower, the system still offsets significant carbon emissions and reduces reliance on grid electricity.

We’ve proven that a site doesn’t need to use 100% of its generated solar energy in real-time to achieve a strong return on investment.

Result

The system is expected to generate 1,304,003 kWh per year and save 303,832 kilograms of CO₂ in the first year alone.

This project shows how solar can be an effective solution even for sites with restricted export capacity and nighttime energy demand.

Docklands is the latest in a series of installations we’ve delivered for DPD, following successful projects at Hinckley and Oldbury.

Together, these sites demonstrate how we support blue-chip clients with repeatable, high-quality solutions that deliver measurable sustainability impact across their property portfolio.
