Greg Barker to launch solar event

October 3, 2013

From October 8th to 10th this year, the NEC Birmingham will host the 2013 Solar Energy UK event, with a very special guest set to kick-start proceedings.

Energy and climate change minister Greg Barker will be on hand to launch the exhibition, which is set to demonstrate the values of solar energy and how renewable energy can benefit the environment.

Mr Barker lauded the event for its ability to attract companies from all over the globe, describing it as the UK's largest solar energy event.

"It offers companies the opportunity to showcase innovative products and services, do business and learn about market trends to help stay ahead in the global race,” he added.

The solar market has seen a lot of positive news coverage recently, especially for the use of the technology in the UK. Recent reports have revealed that the UK is now one of the top six global PV markets in the world, as annual demand for solar energy has reached over 1GW.

He continued to recommend the uptake of solar systems by businesses or homeowners. Mr Barker called the renewable systems as "exciting and dynamic technology", while making the point that costs of panels are continuing to fall.

"It has a key part to play in the UK’s energy mix. The Coalition is firmly committed to working with industry to drive forward investment in this high growth green sector. I wish everyone a productive and fruitful event,” he stated.

After cutting the ribbon for the event, Mr Barker will address delegates and visitors to the event on the first morning of Solar Energy UK, before being given a tour of the stands and exhibitions on offer throughout the NEC centre.

For those looking to attend Solar Energy UK, visitor registration can still be made at the website, accessible here

Over 160 exhibitors will be in attendance, delivering products, advice on solar panels, ways to store energy, and a number of other helpful services.
