DECC announces cash for renewable heating kits

May 23, 2013

The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has announced more money available for householders who want to access renewable heating systems.

This includes funding available for ground source heat pumps (£2,300), biomass boilers (£2000), air source heat pumps (£1,300) and £600 for solar thermal systems.

Funding can be obtained via money off vouchers, released under the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme.

Those who live off the gas grid are particularly encouraged to take up the RHPP scheme, as these are the households which will be able to benefit most from the technology.

Greg Barker, energy and climate change minister, said that at present over 10,000 households have gained money to help pay for renewable heating kit, but has urged more consumers to take advantage of the generous incentives available.

“This time limited, big increase in the value of vouchers for hardworking people who want to do something positive to install money saving green heating in their homes, should be a real boost for this growing green sector,” he said.

The Renewable Heat Incentive for domestic properties is also expected to be launched in 2014, but the RHPP voucher scheme is intended to benefit homeowners looking to access sustainable technologies until it is implemented. Now, consumers will be able to access the scheme until March next year.

If a consumer would like to access the vouchers, it is now a requirement to undergo a Green Deal assessment before any voucher claim is made.

The DECC has suggested this so that homeowners will be able to increase their understanding of areas within their property that further energy efficiency improvements can be made. It is also necessary to understand whether or not the renewable heating systems are appropriate for their home.

If customers are convinced that sustainable technologies can benefit their home, it is advised that the Green Deal is accessed for further installations, such as solar panels, double or triple glazing and insulation.
