Paultons Park
Our renewable energy team designed and installed a bespoke solar carport, multiple rooftop PV systems, and battery storage at Paultons Park in Hampshire. Delivered during the park’s winter closure, the project showcases Paultons Park’s commitment to sustainability and marks the first solar carport installation at a UK theme park.

Challenge
Paultons Park sought a renewable energy solution to reduce its reliance on the grid, cut carbon emissions, and support long-term sustainability goals.
The project was won through a competitive tender process and involved installing a new-build energy system across ten rooftops, a carport, and a battery, all within a strict 3-month window during the park’s winter closure.
The client had specific requirements, including a bespoke solar carport with a blue roof and integration of SolarEdge technology for advanced safety and monitoring — two components not typically used together.
EvoEnergy was also required to adhere to tight operational procedures and personnel guidelines to ensure safety across the busy theme park environment.

Solution
EvoEnergy delivered a complex system combining precision-engineered infrastructure with intelligent solar design.
The monopitch solar carport, spanning 14 metres with six portrait panels per bay, presented a structural challenge as it had no traditional roof to mount to — requiring extremely accurate steelwork and bespoke cable containment for neatness, performance, and safety.
We overcame the technical incompatibility between the carport and SolarEdge system by developing a custom-built containment unit that made the integration seamless and visually unobtrusive — a solution the client was highly pleased with.
For maximum performance, we deployed SolarEdge inverters and optimisers across all arrays, limiting the impact of shading and enabling detailed performance monitoring.
Each array is connected to a SolarEdge Firefighter Gateway, which automatically cuts voltage to a safe-touch level if a fire alarm is triggered — ensuring full fire safety compliance.
To enhance system visibility, EvoEnergy installed smart import/export metering on the site’s substations and configured online generation tracking tools.
A new 1000A connection and distribution board were also established to support the integration of the battery and carport systems.
EvoEnergy supported all DNO applications and provided desktop analysis, G99 applications, and system drawings, while Paultons Park handled planning approvals.

Result
This landmark project makes Paultons Park significantly more energy independent and environmentally sustainable.
With an annual generation of 770,000 kWh and 82% of that energy used on site, the park can now focus on further development with reduced operating costs and a lower environmental impact.
The project was delivered on time within the shutdown period. It stands as EvoEnergy’s first privately owned solar carport installation, and the UK’s first solar carport deployed at a theme park — setting a precedent for renewable energy integration in the leisure and tourism sector.
Paultons Park is now exploring further development opportunities, and the public has responded positively to the new sustainable infrastructure, further strengthening the park’s environmental credentials.
