Friday 13th is said to be unlucky for some – but it was quite the opposite for EvoEnergy after winning the Innovation category at the West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards 2018.
In 2017, EvoEnergy entered the same category for its DPD Hinckley installation and was given a ‘highly commended’ accolade. This year, the company highlighted the work it had done for workplace supplies firm Lyreco, in Shropshire, where the UK’s largest industrial-scale battery with PV was installed.

The 500w / 950kWh ‘behind-the-meter’ Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is providing valued services back to the grid while also powering Lyreco’s 24-hour distribution centre. The project follows on from the 3.8 MWp rooftop PV array that was completed by EvoEnergy in January 2016.

Winning the award automatically put EvoEnergy forward for the National Constructing Excellence Awards, which will take place in November.

The awards recognise installers and contractors that “provide excellent customer service, and demonstrate a high standard of quality workmanship or best practice within their local community”, with judges also looking at the impact their work has had within the local community, what their customers and local community have to say about them, and what level of expertise the nominee has.

EvoEnergy MD Mark Wakeford (pictured, right) said: “What a fantastic month for EvoEnergy. To win the Solar PV Installer of the Year award for the second year running is a real testament to the work we do in the region and also highlights the steps that East Midlands’ businesses are taking to improve their environmental commitments. I had a fantastic evening at the West Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards too and will be keeping my fingers crossed for the main event in November!”
