EvoEnergy to Install 1.5 MWp on New Aldi Site in Cardiff

November 24, 2015

After winning the work to install 2.1 MWp on the Aldi distribution centre in Bolton earlier this year, EvoEnergy are delighted to announce that they’ve recently been awarded the work to install a 1.5 MWp system on Aldi’s next distribution centre construction in Cardiff which, from early 2017, will supply stores in South Wales and South-West England.

Following a vigorous tender process against other large industry installers, EvoEnergy were awarded the site at Cardiff, with the quality of the work completed on the Bolton site being a key influence on the decision. This is great news for EvoEnergy as they aim to work with Aldi over the long term, after the leading supermarket chain announced plans to build an extensive portfolio of new stores and distribution centres – including Bolton and Cardiff – before 2020. The Cardiff site is the third distribution centre to be built since Aldi delivered their plans to expand their UK operations.

With the site already under construction, EvoEnergy will begin installing the rooftop solar PV system in January with a view to handing over the completed project in March 2016, allowing the client to benefit from Renewable Obligation (RO) subsidy.

The Cardiff distribution centre will be 42,000 square metres in size once complete, slightly smaller than the Bolton site (56,000 square metres), with the Government financially supporting £4.5m of the £59.5m development to ensure that the project was secured for Wales. It is anticipated that the new distribution centre will create over 400 jobs in the region.

Meanwhile, the solar PV system installed by EvoEnergy on the Aldi distribution centre in Bolton is close to completion, with the handover likely to happen in December. The image at the top of this page gives a panoramic fish-eye view of progress from last month.
