UK Solar Capacity is 6th Highest at 5GWpAugust 18, 2014
The UK’s solar capacity is currently around 5 GWp, meaning that we are the 6th country to reach this landmark. One-third of this total is attributed to domestic installs, with the rest equally split again between commercial installs and solar parks.
In comparison, Germany lead the way with an impressive 36 GWp, where China, Japan, Italy and the US have all hit the 10 GWp mark.
In terms of utility-scale solar (> 4 MWp), the UK has shown high levels of growth to make us the 5th in this particular market league table and gain considerably on India, China, Germany & the US. However, the rapid growth in this market could slow down following the Government’s decision to remove Renewable Obligation support for installs greater than 5 MWp in 2015.
