Save up to 10% on your electricity bills with VPhase

EvoEnergy now install VPhase voltage optimisation units. It’s a simple technology that’s proving really popular, and for good reason. We calculate that in ten years’ time, it could save you £500 on your household electricity bills. Voltage optimisation devices like VPhase work by reducing the voltage feeding into your home, meaning you don’t pay for electrical current you don’t need. Voltage in the UK is typically around 240V, but can range from 216V to 253V. Many appliances in the... Read more

Returns stronger now than one year ago

We prepare dozens of quotes every day, but this one was a little different. Why? Because we’d quoted for exactly the same property almost a year earlier... In 2011 the feed-in tariff was 43.3p per unit. It was the year when everyone started talking about solar, and PV systems were hailed as a smart new alternative to investing in banks and building societies. Fast forward one year, and the feed-in tariff has fallen to 21p after a lengthy and confusing court case. Media interest has waned... Read more

Planning rules relaxed for commercial installs

Thanks to a change in planning regulations, many commercial PV systems are now considered a ‘Permitted Development’, meaning they can go ahead without the need to obtain planning permission. The amendment came into effect on 6 April 2012 and means most installations under 50kWp will now be able to skip the eight- to ten-week period it normally takes to apply for and receive permission from the local authority. There are a few sensible exceptions to the new rule. For example, as with domestic... Read more

Only 9 weeks left to install on 21p tariff

Right now the feed-in tariff can give you returns of up to 11.7%. But you’ll need to act quickly – on 1 July the rate could be reduced to as little as 13.6p. Back in February the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) released a schedule for the gradual reduction of the feed-in tariff (FIT). It stated that, depending on the total amount of solar PV installed in March and April, the current tariff of 21p per kilowatt hour would fall to 13.6-16.5p. Since 139 MW of PV systems were installed... Read more
