As energy prices have steadily risen over the past decades, we have become more and more adept at building our homes to retain more heat and use less energy to power them. Modern homes now have loft, wall and floor insulation, with double glazing and low energy appliances where possible. They will have an A rated boiler with a full set of heating controls to minimise any excess energy in heating the home.
Unfortunately many of these practices were not in place in the past, and with the oldest housing stock in Europe, many homes are not benefitting from the full list of these measures. By installing energy efficiency measures, you will be safe in the knowledge you’re spending less on heating and electricity every year and are protected from rises energy prices.
Measures for your home
We have worked to develop a range of energy efficiency measures that can be installed across all types of properties to ensure that there is a solution for you to reduce your bills further. The four main areas we have focused on to help you reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions across both your electricity and heating bills are:
- Boilers
- Heating controls
- Insulation
- Voltage optimisation
Boilers
Is you boiler breaking down repeatedly? If so now is the time to upgrade to a new energy efficient boiler. In the average home, your boiler will account for 60% of your energy spend throughout the year, so it’s important to have an efficient unit. By upgrading an old non-condensing boiler to a new A-rated boiler, you can save yourself around £300 a year!
We offer a range of leading boilers chosen to fit seamlessly into your existing heating system. To find out more about replacing your boiler and the different types available click here
Heating controls
If you want to maximise the savings you can make with your heating system then the correct heating controls are essential in ensuring your boiler, old or new, is working at its maximum efficiency. Heating controls allow you to only heat the parts of your home that you need to and only when you need them heated.
We offer a range of heating controls, both from the manufacturers of our boilers and leading heating control specialists to ensure we have a system that will fit with your needs and your boiler.
Insulation
In the drive to keep heat in and fuel bills down, insulation is an obvious place to start. A home with no insulation – including most properties built before the 1990s – will lose 25% of heat through the roof and 33% through the exterior walls. Not only will insulation slash heating costs, it’ll make the winter months a lot cosier.
We offer a range of insulation for your home, catering for both cavity wall properties and older solid walls. In addition we can check your loft insulation and make sure it meets the current recommendation of 270mm, ensuring your home is as thermally efficient as possible.
Voltage Optimisation
While the UKs housing stock is amongst the oldest in Europe, our national grid is also amongst the oldest and as a result we have a much higher voltage being fed into our homes than across the rest of mainland Europe. The result of this is that our appliances are using more energy than they need to, and we are paying more for our electricity than necessary.
By fitting a voltage optimisation device, you can reduce the voltage being fed to household appliances, reducing your electricity bills by up to 10%.
