Labour’s Alistair Darling revealed the UK”s latest goals to achieve a 34% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, the world”s first legally binding carbon budget. This is a 13% increase from the previously agreed 20%. The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) advised the Government on this new figure. The 2009 Budget states that the UK is currently on track to meet this target, but continues to mention that the purchasing of carbon credits may be used as a fallback option.
