2017 marks the 150th anniversary of EvoEnergy’s parent company, Stepnell Ltd, and on Sunday 16th July the occasion was celebrated with staff and their families across the Group by participating in the annual Rotary Dragon Boat event held at Billing Aquadrome’s Marina Lake in Northampton.
With over 25 companies from around the region entering the event to race on the day, Stepnell’s entered 7 teams (of 10 rowers plus one drummer) including the EvoEnergy team, called ‘Notts so Fast’. With 40 teams entered in total, each team had three races (with four teams racing in each ‘heat’), with their best two times added together and the fastest four teams going head-to-head in the final.
Each race was completed over a 200 metre stretch of the lake with the times ranging from 50 to over 75 seconds. EvoEnergy’s times were:

  • 1st Race: 64.92 seconds (4th)
  • 2nd Race: 62.00 seconds (3rd)
  • 3rd Race: 56.23 seconds (2nd)

After some great (and much needed!) advice on technique from the organisers before EvoEnergy’s 3rd race, the team put in a strong performance and only missed out winning the race by 2 seconds. However, despite putting in performances that improved with each race, unfortunately none of the Stepnell or EvoEnergy teams progressed to the final. The final was won with an impressive time of 48.95 seconds!
Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable day that involved all the staff and their families. Stepnell also provided a marquee to host a barbeque, drinks bar and even a masseuse with donations collected during the day for the Air Ambulance.
Coincidentally, 2017 is also the 10th year anniversary for EvoEnergy therefore the day was also utilised to celebrate EvoEnergy’s company’s milestone.
